Ten years ago, Miami was considered a beautiful beach paradise, but hardly a world-wide arts haven. Now on the 10th anniversary of Art Basel, we are reminded of what a great feat it was when this Swiss art fair came to Miami. The show ran from Thursday Dec. 1 through the weekend, and exhibited contemporary works by more than 2,000 artists and 265 major galleries representing five continents. The massively popular fair extended from the beach to vibrant art districts like Wynwood, and the energetic streets of Ocean Drive and Collins Avenue. Take a look at some of what I … (read more).
Are you ready for the high-energy Ultra Music Festival 2012 to return to its original home at Bayfront Park? Well, then get your tickets fast! They’re selling out at a rapid rate, which comes as no surprise since their past lineups have boasted some of the most popular electronic acts like deadmau5 and Avicii. Although their 2012 lineup is still under wraps, I’m hoping that the previously rumored Swedish House Mafia make an appearance but if not, tickets are still available to their December 16th show at Madison Square Garden. In the meantime, take a listen to their infectious club … (read more).
I’ve been on the lookout for some new music, so when I came across Young the Giant’s self titled album, it was just what I needed. The band, originally known as the Jakes, formed in the early 2000s in Irvine California. Now, under their new name, the band has been enjoying continuing success with their first album and songs like “Apartment” and “My Body.” But it was their hit “Cough Syrup” that really made me press the replay button! Check out the gorgeous visual accompaniment to this song that takes place at an indoor pool complex complete with synchronized … (read more).
Here at Cassadecor, we are all about going green. So in 2010, when I heard about the the partnership between Thermos and one of our favorite T-shirt companies Threadless, to create a line of eco-friendly water bottles, I was excited to pick one up. For those not familiar with this community driven site, each design is chosen from hundreds of submissions based on the votes of nearly one and a half million members and then put into production. Not only are the bottles BPA free, but they follow the hip, graphic appeal of their fun shirts. So if you are an environmentally conscious consumer who hasn’t picked … (read more).
Every once in a while a band slips through the cracks that makes you wonder how it took you so long to find them? American indie-pop band, Fun somehow managed to do this, but since I have been a fan of Nate Reuss from his time in The Format, I was instantly hooked on their latest track, “We are Young.” So take a look below and watch Fun’s new and eccentric video for the song, and enjoy this unique trio of music makers!
Many washing machines currently out on the market are focused on using less water, but what if there was a machine that used practically no water or detergent at all? Now, with a device developed by Leeds-based Xeros Ltd, this method of “dry” cleaning might soon become available with a washing machine that uses 90% less water than a normal laundry cycle. All you need is a little cup of water and then tiny, 3mm-long nylon beads are used to take care of the stains. Its producers also claim it will reduce household energy bills. How does it work? The beads … (read more).
This weekend I was fortunate enough to go to trendy, Lincoln Road in Miami, Florida to Peter Lik’s stunning photography gallery, LIK Miami. Hearing the word Miami might bring to mind beaches, swaying palms, and aquamarine waters, and Peter Lik captures this beauty in a way you’ve never seen before. From jeweled seas to exotic forests, Lik photographs the city’s natural beauty in a wonderful way, and this gallery is living proof that Miami has never looked better. Here are just some of the photographs inside LIK Miami:
If you are dazzled by architecture or just appreciate its beauty, check this out! Copenhagen studio Henning Larsen Architects has completed the Harpa concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavík, Iceland in collaboration with artist Olafur Eliasson. This remarkable creation gathers inspiration from the northern lights and the dramatic Icelandic scenery that surrounds it. The images below show how the beautiful steel framework mixes clear and color coated glass with twelve-sided modules. This faceted glass scatters reflections of the surrounding harbor and sky, and presents a glittering wall of light after dark. The overall intention of this architectural piece is to generate life … (read more).
