Big Flavor in Small Plates at Recette
January 17, 2012
When I came across Recette on New York Magazine’s Top Restaurants for 2012, I knew the food would be tasty, but to say it was superb is an understatement. Known for its pick and choose menu of small but absolutely delicious portions, you will find a combination of both the traditional and refreshingly modern at this cozy West Village restaurant. You are encouraged to order lots of food here, so it’s best to come in with an open mind for trying something new. To start the meal off a little unexpectedly, try the marinated hamachi, which is an instant hit with its generous dollop of uni (sea urchin) and refreshingly subtle flavor. Another fish based dish to die for is the trout and crab meat foie gras (above), served with a parsnip puree that gives a delightful sweetness to the perfectly seared fish. Since the seafood dishes are not to be missed here, also choose from the roasted scallops or lobster torchon, which were both cooked to sweet perfection. Round out the meal with their duck breast, which comes with foie gras lightly covered in a flavorful sauce with mushrooms and sweet walnuts to give it a bit of crunch. When you finally begin to feel full, do not give up just yet, the dessert alone is worth the trip. Even the palate cleanser is delicious – an apple sorbet with a crispy crumble on top of a spread of raspberry sauce. But the main event for the meal’s final portion is their smores, or rather their take on this famous fireside snack. Served with graham cracker ice-cream, toasted marshmallow with a bit of spiciness, chocolate ganache, and a thin chocolate cookie, its any dessert lover’s dream. If this is all starting to sound delicious, then take a look at some of these mouth-watering dishes below, and since it’s not too early to reserve that perfect spot for Valentine’s Day, we highly recommend that you book your table at Recette now.
