Jill Vegas’ Fall Decorating Guide
September 23, 2011Happy First Day of Fall! As promised in yesterday’s post, we’re kicking off the autumn season with exclusive tips and fall trends from pro stager and speed decorator, Jill Vegas. So, take a look below and find some of Jill’s top tips for updating your rooms quickly, easily, and of course beautifully.

Fall Color Tips & Trends
1. Start with a neutral palette and infuse each room with a shot of bold color – red, orange, green, and blue are always fabulous selections.
2. Mix metallics in a room- it can be a blend of bronze, chrome, or even a metallic throw.
(Jill combined both red & metallic trends by decorating one room with this fabulous lamp!)
3. Pick 3 colors per room. An easy way to select a palette is to pick the Benjamin Moore Aura Affinity Fan Deck and no matter what, the three colors will always work together.
Jill suggests:
Color 1: atrium white (use for walls, furniture, vases, lampshades, rug, or a thick wooly throw)
Color 2: a pop of red for an accent wall or throw pillows (you can also mix and match shades of red like paprika, brick, and poppy)
Color 3: black or wenge wood artwork frames or coffee tables
Quick and Easy Changes
1. Put away all of the beachy summer themed accents. Change shell fillers on glass cylinders to black river rocks and stock up on pillar candles with woodsy smells like cedar or forest).
2. Bring nature indoors by layering organic materials to give a feeling of texture: think grapevine branches.
3. Swap out your throw pillow covers from summery cotton prints to felted wool or mohair.
4. If you have a blank wall, create art! Rip pages from a book or newspaper and stick them in frames. If you’d rather shop, head to West Broadway on the weekend and support local artists!

(Jill mixes and matches shades of red and orange to make this couch stand out.)
